E' il momento di commentare lo show di ieri sera, per la prima volta visto in diretta su Sky assieme agli amici:

CLAUDE "THE PRINCE" PATRICK VS. JAMES "LIGHTNING" WILKS
Incontro di apertura tra 2 fighters assolutamente non popolari (oddio, Wilks ha vinto una recente edizione del TUF ed è inglese, ma non mi dà l'impressione di essere molto popolare), con il canadese Patrick al suo secondo incontro in UFC che domina l'avversario portandolo a terra a suo piacimento e tentando di lavorarlo senza però riuscire nell'intento di chiudere l'incontro. Una buona vittoria per lui, brutto stop per Wilks che è a rischio licenziamento a mio giudizio. L'incontro di per sè è stato buono nel primo round, ma gli altri 2 sono stati un pò noiosi, non il massimo come inizio.

CHEICK "THE FRENCH SENSATION" KONGO VS. TRAVIS "HAPA" BROWNE
Un altro incontro bruttino, anche questo dopo un primo round che sembrava promettente e che ha visto Browne (anch'egli al secondo incontro in UFC) controllare bene l'incontro sul veterano Kongo, che poi nel 2° e 3° round è sembrato poter prendere le redini e vedendo il risultato finale dei giudici è costata cara a lui il punto di squalifica ricevuto nel 3° round per avere trattenuto Browne per i pantaloncini. Sicuramente se l'atleta di Parigi voleva risalire la china per tornare al top della divisione Heavyweight, non è così che otterrà il risultato. Mi aspetto che la UFC proponga un rematch tra questi 2.

JOHN "THE HITMAN" HATHAWAY VS. MIKE "QUICKSAND" PYLE
Altra brutta battuta d'arresto per le MMA inglesi, uno dei suoi prospetti più interessanti ha infatti perso la sua imbattibilità. Hathaway, dopo aver ben figurato contro Diego Sanchez, non riesce a combinare granchè contro il veterano Mike Pyle, che reduce da vari alti e bassi della sua carriera è ora in un gran momento di forma. Pyle che alla fine del 2° round va molto vicino a chiudere l'incontro con una gran Mount Triangle (lo so che vorreste spiegazioni tecniche sulla posizione ma sarebbe troppo lunga e poi non so neanche se la spiegherei giusta), peccato che non abbia tentato la sottomissione perchè secondo me Hathaway avrebbe ceduto. Discreto incontro.

CARLOS "THE NATURAL BORN KILLER" CONDIT VS. DAN "THE OUTLAW" HARDY
Ed eccoci qui all'unico incontro della main card che non è andato ai giudici. L'ex WEC Welterweight Champion, autore di una gran prova è riuscito a fare quello che nessuno in UFC ancora aveva fatto, ovvero mettere KO Hardy...e che KO! Una grandissima vittoria pe lui che sicuramente lo proietta tra i contendenti principali a Georges St-Pierre e sicuramente bisognerà aspettare i prossimi sviluppi (a partire da Shields vs. Kampmann di settimana prossima) per vedere chi è il suo prossimo avversario. Bruttissima sconfitta per Dan Hardy sul terreno di casa, probabilmente d'ora in poi abbasserà un pò la cresta (perdonate la battuta, LOL) e dovrà ripartire da capo. Non mi stupirebbe se l'UFC facesse un rematch tra lui e Marcus Davis, staremo a vedere.

MICHAEL "THE COUNT" BISPING VS. YOSHIHIRO AKIYAMA
Ed eccoci al main-event, che la UFC premierà come "Fight of the Night", ma che secondo me non è stato assolutamente tale. E' stato un incontro alla Bisping, con l'inglese che ha controllato l'incontro per praticamente sulla durata, ma assolutamente incapace di mettere in difficoltà Akiyama, che dal canto suo ho trovato veramente poco allenato e assolutamente non in forma, una brutta prestazione la sua. Vittoria, non brillante, ma pur sempre vittoria per Bisping he probabilmente è a un paio di incontri da una possibile title shot, ma credo che prima di eventualmente averla dovrebbe battere Wanderlei Silva in un rematch.

MARK "BOOTS" HOLST VS. PAUL "SASSANGLE" SASS
Per me match della serata, non per nulla è l'unico incontro andato in onda dalla Preliminary Card. Incontro che mostra le incredibili doti a terra dell'inglese Sass che per tutta la durata del round prova la sottomissione a Holst fino a riuscirci con molta determinazione. Per lui, ancora imbattuto 11-0, 8° vittoria per sottomissione in carriera al debutto in UFC che gli vale il bonus "Submission of the Night". Molto bravo.

In definitiva, vista la card, da molti (e non a torto) considerata alla stregua di un Fight Night, devo dire che non è stato un evento malvagissimo, poteva andare molto ma molto peggio. E settimana prossima con UFC 121 e una card stellare speriamo che ci sia tutt'altro spettacolo.

Michael Bisping mi è piaicuto, l'ho trovato miglireo del solito, agile ed efficace con calci e pugni mettendo in difficoltà Akiyama che come hai detto tu era fuori forma e la maggior parte delle volte andava a vuoto
Dan Hardy e Carlos Condit a mio parere sono stati dei "sprovveduti"...mi spiego...è rischioso combattere a viso aperto senza difese e di fatti Hardy ha subito un grande sinistro andando ko
Il migliro match è stato quello dei preliminari, nonostante Sass fosse a terra controllava l'incontro e alla fine dai e ridai ha vinto per submission
Questo atleta è da tenere d'occhio

Che dire...attendo con ansia il prossimo ppv perchè in primis c'è BROCK LESNAR!!!

Il messicnao l'ho seguito sin dai tempio di The Ultimate Fighter, è un grande!

Comunque mi aspettavo di trovare più gente su questo topic con l'incontro di Lesnar incombente.

Intanto, non c'entra con il PPV, ma mi sembrava giusto postare la notizia:

CHRIS LEBEN REPORTEDLY ARRESTED ON SUSPICION OF DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

UFC Middleweight Chris Leben was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant, according to a report from Hawaii News Now. Leben, 30, was allegedly driving on the H1 Freeway in Honolulu when he lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into a wall. According to the report, he was allegedly driving without a license or insurance.
A talented yet sometimes troubled fighter, Leben was previously arrested on another DUI charge in his home state of Washington, an issue that cost him a chance to compete in a scheduled match in June 2008.

Leben served jail time for that offense and the UFC later rescheduled his bout with Michael Bisping. Leben went on to lose the match in a unanimous decision at UFC 89 but tested positive for steroids in a post-fight test and was suspended for nine months.
Professionally, Leben had been in the midst of a strong stretch in the UFC, winning three straight fights, most recently defeating Yoshihiro Akiyama by triangle choke at July's UFC 116.

Leben had been expected to face Brian Stann at UFC 125 on January 1, but there is no indication of whether his arrest will impact the scheduled bout.
He is scheduled to appear at Honolulu district court on November 22.

The original "Ultimate Fighter," Diego Sanchez, may be making his final appearance as a Welterweight when he takes on Paulo Thiago at UFC 121 this Saturday night (Oct. 23) in Anaheim. Promotion President Dana White, along with many mixed martial arts pundits, believed his "nightmare" loss to 170-pound rising star John Hathaway at UFC 114 back in May was a clear indication that he was better suited for the Lightweight Division. Is there a chance we may finally see that long awaited rematch with "KenFlo" in 2011?

Per me sono fatti davvero bene!

Sì bè, sono simpatici, il mio preferito è quello di Nick Diaz dove quest'ultimo si incazza non appena Paul E gli dice che anche "Mayhem" Miller è stato messo nel gioco e per scusarsi dice: "Eh ma guarda che non l'ho mica messo io nel gioco!"

Comunque adesso Paul E da quel che so ha appena cominciato a lavorare per Electronic Arts con questi promo e si dice che tra qualche mese dovrebbe entrare a far parte di Strikeforce, non si sa in che ruolo. Quello che è sicuro è che ha detto di aver chiuso con il pro-wrestling.

Esattamente si occupa proprio della pubblicità/viral marketing per EA Sports MMA (che ho provato: gioco veramente fatto bene, anche se il sistema di comandi può essere spiazzante per chi è abituato con UFC Undisputed, come me )

Quello con Diaz è veramente bellissimo e sopratutto promuove egregiamente i fighter...non c'è niente da fare, la mano di Heyman si sente quando fa queste cose :aa:

LESNAR OR VELASQUEZ? DOS SANTOS SAYS UFC 121 WINNER WILL GET KNOCKED OUT

When UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar meets undefeated challenger Cain Velasquez in the main event of Saturday night's UFC 121 event in California, top contender Junior Dos Santos (12-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC) will be seated cageside to watch the action unfold. Dos Santos, of course, will be evaluating a future opponent, as he has already been tagged by UFC President Dana White as the next contender for the Heavyweight Title.
Of course, don't expect Dos Santos to be too concerned with what happens in the Octagon. After all, he sees no reason he won't knock out either fighter when his shot at the belt comes to fruition.

"I'm so excited for this fight because I will know who is going to be the guy I will take the belt from," Dos Santos said on Friday. "I think Velasquez has a very good chance to be champion, but against me, it's going to be different. I think Brock's a good fighter, too, but it doesn't matter who's going to win. When they fight against me, I will knock them out."

Dos Santos burst onto the UFC scene with an October 2008 "Knockout of the Night" win over Fabricio Werdum. Now just 26 years old, Dos Santos has worked quickly up the UFC's heavyweight ranks on the strength of six-straight impressive victories. But while the Brazilian's Octagon performances speak for themselves, Dos Santos said it's his observation of time in the gym the have him believing his time is now.

"When I started my career, I did a lot of sparring with the Nogueira brothers," Dos Santos said. "They are very good fighters, and I was starting out at that time, so they beat me a lot. Now, I feel better because with the Nogueira brothers, Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida, they've helped me a lot, and it's important for me. I'm a more complete fighter than at that time, so I can do better sparring with them. Today, it's hard for them to spar with me."

Dos Santos earned his spot as No. 2 contender by virtue of a three-round win over Roy Nelson in August. In that win, as well as his other five UFC victories, it's been Dos Santos' boxing on display. In a fight against either Lesnar or Velasquez, the prospect's grappling skills would likely prove vital. While Dos Santos' lone career loss came via submission, he insists he's improved dramatically since that November 2007 result.

"Today, I'm a more complete fighter," Dos Santos said. "In that time, I was just starting my career. That loss was very good for me. It brought me confidence. Now, I can tell you that it's going to be different. My jiu-jitsu is so much better now. I'm a brown belt now. ... I'm sure I'll do well in the ground game."

With 13 fights to his credit, Dos Santos has nearly as much professional experience as Lesnar and Velasquez combined. And while the future seems bright for perhaps the sport's best Heavyweight prospect, Dos Santos sees no reason to wait for the inevitable.

"This is my dream," Dos Santos said. "I think every UFC fighter wants to be champion someday, and I'm no different. I want to be champion."
