KIMBO SLICE SLATED FOR RETURN TO CAGE WITH BELLATOR MMA
Immagine
Heavyweight fighter Kevin Ferguson – better known as “Kimbo Slice” to many veteran fight fans – is slated for a return to the cage, this time with Bellator MMA.
We have confirmed with sources close to the promotion that the veteran slugger, previously known for a series of underground fights posted to YouTube, and later for a career with the now-defunct EliteXC promotion and eventually the UFC, has agreed to a deal with Bellator. An announcement is expected during tonight’s Bellator 132 broadcast on Spike TV.

CombatPress.com first reported the signing on Thursday evening. According to the report, a debut date and matchup is expected to be announced in the coming days. Slice, a 40-year-old Bahamian-born fighter, hasn’t competed in MMA since a 2010 loss to Matt Mitrione in 2010.
The loss came under the UFC banner, where Slice first appeared on “The Ultimate Fighter 10″ reality series in 2009. His spot on the heavyweights season of “TUF” followed an upset loss to Seth Petruzelli in 2008 and the subsequent collapse of EliteXC, which featured the former YouTube sensation prominently in a series of highly promoted network-televised events on CBS. On “TUF 10,” Slice suffered a first-round loss to eventual show champion Roy Nelson, and his MMA career fizzled following a lackluster win over Houston Alexander and the subsequent defeat to Mitrione, which concluded his UFC run.
In recent years, Slice had turned his attention to pro boxing, where he racked up a 7-0 mark against a string of overmatched opponents.

Although the former bareknuckle brawler’s best days may be behind him, Slice still brings some drawing power to an organization that’s recently signed notable (but aging) stars, including the likes of UFC Hall of Famers Tito Ortiz and Stephan Bonnar. He could also provide some promotional muscle for an organization that recently saw one of its top draws, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, re-sign with the UFC.

2 super notizie nella giornata di oggi!

UFC VETERAN, FORMER STRIKEFORCE CHAMP CUNG LE RETIRES FROM MMA
Immagine
After several months of weighing his options, middleweight Cung Le has decided to hang up his MMA gloves.
Le’s longtime manager, Gary Ibarra, told us that the 42-year-old fighter’s retirement extends only to the cage, leaving open the possibility of a return to kickboxing, where he competed prior to his MMA debut in 2006 under the now-defunct Strikeforce banner. However, Le said in a prepared statement (available below) that he intends to focus on his acting career, which has led him to several major roles as an actor and fight choreographer in action movies.
Several weeks ago, Ibarra said Le sent a letter to the UFC announcing his retirement. Prior to that, he was considered part of the promotion’s active roster. Typically, the UFC freezes a fighter’s contract upon retirement, so Le would be obligated to the industry-leader should he change his mind about competing in MMA.

Le (9-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) retires with a 9-3 record, which included a stint as the Strikeforce Middleweight Champion. He most recently fought this past August at UFC Fight Night 48, where he suffered a fourth-round TKO loss to Michael Bisping. One month later, the UFC announced he tested positive for elevated levels of human growth hormone and suspended him first for nine months. Then, Le’s suspension was extended to 12 months with the promotion citing an error on the term’s length. In a statement, Le denied any used of performance-enhancing drugs and said he was “completely surprised” by the UFC’s findings. He questioned the testing methods utilized by the promotion.
After questions were subsequently raised about the testing protocols used for UFC Fight Night 48, which the UFC self-regulated in Macau, as well as Le’s ability to contest the findings against him, the promotion announced it would allow the fighter to have his case heard by a third-party arbitrator. Then, after receiving medical advice from an unknown party, it concluded that the test results were inconclusive and rescinded his suspension.

Le subsequently said he no longer wished to fight for the UFC and contemplated retirement. After being cleared of wrongdoing, Le called the UFC to task for its handling of his case.

“While I feel vindicated in this matter, the UFC’s press release does little in the way of an apology of which I believe I am rightly owed after unfairly enduring the public’s scrutiny,” Le wrote.

Le subsequently requested his UFC release but was denied. In an interview, he said if he were to return to active MMA competition, it would be with his his former promoter, current Bellator MMA President Scott Coker, who ran Strikeforce before its acquisition by UFC parent company Zuffa in 2011.

This past month, Le was named as a plaintiff in a class-action lawsuit against the industry-leader alleging it engaged in anti-competitive business practices. He was the only active UFC fighter attached to the litigation, which the promotion has promised to vigorously contest.
LEGENDARY HEAVYWEIGHT MIRKO "CRO COP" FILIPOVIC RETURNING TO UFC - NOT BELLATOR MMA
Immagine
Out of the UFC for more than three years, MMA legend Mirko Filipovic is on his way back to the promotion.
“Cro Cop” last fought for the UFC in October 2011, when he was stopped by fellow Heavyweight Roy Nelson with a third-round TKO. But since then, despite a brief flirtation with retirement, the Croatian has gone 3-1 outside the UFC. Rumors surfaced recently that he was headed to UFC competitor Bellator MMA. But the UFC stepped in and will bring him back to the fold. The UFC has yet to formally make an announcement of the signing, but a promotion official confirmed his signing to us. The news first was reported by Bloody Elbow.

After a lengthy and legendary run in PRIDE, “Cro Cop” signed with the UFC in late 2006 and won his promotional debut in February 2007 with a first-round TKO of Eddie Sanchez. That earned him a Heavyweight title eliminator against Gabriel Gonzaga – but that fight went historically awry. “Cro Cop,” known for his head kicks, was stopped by one from Gonzaga in England. That knocked him back into the pack and got Gonzaga a shot at then-champ Randy Couture. Filipovic followed that up with a decision loss to Cheick Kongo at UFC 75, and that was the end of his first stint with the promotion.
He returned after three fights outside the organization, but had a bit of a rocky road. He won three of his first four fights back, all by stoppage. But then he hit a snag with three straight knockout losses to Frank Mir, Brendan Schaub and Nelson. His recent run, though, includes three wins in Japan, including two in 2014, to get him back on a winning streak.
No first fight or time table has been given for what will be his third stint in the UFC.

Heavyweight Legend Fedor Emelianenko reportedly training for return to MMA
Immagine
A little more than three years ago, heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko hung up his gloves.
And this past fall, the Russian nixed any talk of a comeback, telling Michael Schiavello on “The Voice vs. Fedor” on AXS TV that he was through.

“I already fought my share,” Emelianenko told Schiavello in the interview. “God gave me a rich and eventful career. I gave God everything. I’m done fighting. Only God’s will (can bring me back).”

Well, according to a report from Russian MMA news outlet Union MMA, it appears God is willing 38-year-old Emelianenko back into fighting.

“For every athlete it is very important to be able to engage in their favorite thing: give all the best in training, performing in competitions, defending the honor of the motherland,” Emelianenko told the site. “… But now I feel that it is time to return to the ring. I was able to recover and heal old wounds. The last three years I have maintained the physical form, but this level is not enough to go into battle.
Therefore recently I started intensive training. We have assembled a team of versatile coaches and athletes who will help me in the training process. … Negotiations are underway with (promotions). Once agreements are reached, there will be information on the date of the fight and (opponent).”

Emelianenko (34-4) most recently fought in June 2012 under the M-1 Global banner and knocked out Pedro Rizzo. He retired after the fight on a three-fight winning streak, which reversed a three-fight skid for Strikeforce. After going more than 10 years without a loss, he suffered a submission loss to Fabricio Werdum in June 2010 for his first defeat in 30 fights. In 2011, he then suffered back-to-back losses to Antonio Silva and Dan Henderson.
His three-fight winning streak to close his career came against Jeff Monson, Satoshi Ishii and Rizzo.

But what Emelianenko is perhaps remembered for as much as anything is something he didn’t do, and that’s fight in the UFC. The two infamously negotiated, but never could come to an agreement. Two and a half years ago, UFC President Dana White said the promotion was close to signing him for a fight at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas against Brock Lesnar. But that never came to fruition.
More recently, Emelianenko has been making appearances with UFC rival Bellator doing fan autograph signings and meet-and-greets.
